Vander Plaats represents GOP values | desmoinesregister.com | The Des Moines Register
In a Nov. 1 letter, Carol Legg Zeigler asserts that Bob Vander Plaats is not familiar with the core values of the Republican Party. A two-minute Google search to read the platform of the Republican Party of Iowa will quickly reveal who is truly not familiar with Republican values.
Sorry, Zeigler, but a stand against abortion is the first plank laid out in the RPI platform. Plank No. 6 clearly supports marriage between one man and one woman and strictly opposes adoption by same-sex couples. Anti-infanticide (murder) is not a recently introduced issue by the "far-right socially conservative wing" of the party. It is a command given to Moses several thousand years ago. If these are "not Republican Party values or principles," then why are they in the RPI platform? True Republicans are leaving the party because the party seems to only give lip service to its own planks. To Vander Plaats and many other true Republicans, these principles are core convictions, not merely political issues.- Steve Fisher, Grand Junction
